So weird case here. High functioning autism, on set of psychosis same time a year after 6 months of cannabis use. Second episode caused life threatening catatonia. Symptoms were similar to those with Lewy body disease. Similar to low dopamine disorder. So my question is do we know why individuals with low dopamine have same symptoms as Individuals with psychosis who have high dopamine? They gave him Abilify as a way to balance his dopamine since they had no clue why he had symptoms of low dopamine while having psychosis.

I have had anxiety since I was a teen. I'm diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Sometimes I cant even go to the grocery store or go in a car or sometimes leave the house or be around people. Thank GOD my psychiatrist has me on meds and I'm in therapy. It really helps having a good mental health team

@ktryry: It saddens me that a young, passionate person as yourself can inadvertently disseminate misinformation, although the video has helped spark much useful dialogue, so thank you for that. Hopefully in the three years since you posted this, you have kept up in reading peer-reviewed studies and you can correct yourself in your assertion that "schizophrenia is a genetic disorder." This piece of misinformation adds to the stigma attached to the disease. The exact causes of schizophrenia are unknown. Research suggests a combination of physical, genetic, psychological and environmental factors can make a person more likely to develop the condition. Some schizophrenics have absolutely no known family members with the disease, and have contracted it in other ways, such as drug use or exposure to environmental toxins. If you still want to stand behind your assertion, please include links to peer-reviewed studies.

I think the overriding disorder is the false importance society places on sex. I wonder why this is never discussed. All “sexual disorder” behaviors can be defined more broadly in terms of human behavior - treatment of self and others, the sexual aspect only the outlet for those human behaviors. There are no sexual disorders. There are only human disorders. This ridiculous focus on sex is why we have negative moral judgement, discrimination, and actual psychological, emotional, and physical persecution of anyone who doesn’t “fit” another’s idea of “normal” sexuality. This false sacredness is also why a person’s entire life can be destroyed by any violation of a sexual nature. Our sexual aspect is only a part of who we are. It should not be so important that our ability to be happy depends on it. THIS is the bigger disorder never discussed.

I can tell its hell. one of the worst disorders that completely destroys your life and happiness. It has nothing to do with aspergers or autism. Cause you truly suffer from your isolation and loneliness. And like he said, still today i have a hard time to believe its a disorder cause im convinced im just a boring worthless person no one is interested in. I had so many rejections in my life, for me that is proof enough my concerns to be worthless are justified and i have to deal with it. A life long in isolation, no friends, no partners, no social life, no love, no happiness. I kinda gave up. I also think that this disorder is still lesser known and studied, it just comes up now more and more. but therapists i have been never supposed that.

A man who loves a woman will not ignore her, EVER, period. So... If he ignores me I will step back and he will lose me. I don’t play any of these childish abusive controlling mind-games. I will only be with a man who values and appreciates me, and treats me as the Queen that I AM. Because I am a beautiful and kind and sexy and wise and magical woman: who knows my worth. Period. Whenever you are alone, remind yourself that GOD has sent everyone else away, so that there is only you and him... Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you. YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE IN ECSTATIC MOTION, BABY! Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes... For those who love with their heart and soul there is no such thing as separation. You have to keep breaking your own heart until it opens (It is only then, that GOD can truly totally completely fully enter)! Our greatest strength lies in the gentleness and tenderness of our heart. --- Rumi

hearing voices and experiencing things outside of other people's reality goes a lot deeper than feeling anxious because of the voices content. it's just not that simplistic. you can't throw psychiatry at this as a cure all. often people with psychosis do indeed suffer with anxiety that is a lot more complicated. i suffered with anxiety and agoraphobia for years that wasn't due to the voices content. for years psychiatrists threw medication and voices therapy at my psychosis and i was still scared stiff in myself. counselling and dealing with the anxiety solved it for me. psychiatry muddied it.

It's interesting that "paedophilic disorder" is the only one that stands out from the others as being an attraction to a category of people and so seems to better fit the definition of sexual orientation. Homosexuality was likewise once considered a disorder. According to penile plethysmograph studies, ~90% of men respond sexually to young teen girls which meets your definition of paedophilic disorder. I know lots of people, myself included, who were consensually sexually active well under 18/16 and were not harmed by our experiences. So even a "paedophile" "acting on" their attraction can be harmless and therefore doesn't meet the definition of paraphilic disorder. If people are having their lives destroyed by the law for harmless consensual sex then it is the law that is disordered, not the people. I'm glad you highlighted the greyness of all this and talked about how transvestitism disorder is being phased out thanks to the transgender movement. Likewise, paedophilic disorder is being phased out by the Minor-Attracted People (MAP) community and researchers working with them.

Better off not taking it. It’s ruined many peoples lives. You’re a quack if you use it. I had fatigue and my Dr wanted to give it to me for energy. Little did he know I’ve been studying Psychopharmacology for decades. My BA is in Psychology and I’ve been a nurse for 24 years. It causes agitation not energy.

I took this to help with cravings after my last drink. It was odd because after 4 months or so being sober, all of a sudden I started craving again. But that's the way it was for me. Campral helped eliminate those cravings and my sobriety continued. It's been over 15 years since my last drink and life is so much better without alcohol.
